Broadband deals no landline

Experience fast and reliable internet broadband service without the encumbrance of a landline as you can simply pay for a line rental to enjoy the service.

What is a Broadband Only No Landline Deal?

 Broadband only deals no landline

Broadband without a landline means having access to the internet without including a home connection to the package. However, most broadband providers still use copper wire to complete the journey to your home from 6the street cabinet. This means you have to pay for line rental in order to cover maintenance costs.

But there are few providers like BT that offer broadband without the need to include a phone line but an option to pay extra to use existing infrastructure to make calls from home. And providers like Virgin Media, TalkTalk, Vodafone, and BT offer fibre-to-the-premises. A fibre-optic connection makes use of fibre-optic cables all the way to your property without the need to go through the street cabinet or use copper cables to complete the journey.

Can I get Broadband Without a Phone Line?

Most broadband packages are known to include the monthly cost of line rental with access to phone lines for national and international calls. But keep in mind that most UK providers can only make use of the line rental to connect you to the internet if you pay for line rental.

Types of Broadband with no Landline

Broadband only deals no landline

These are the options available for broadband with no upfront cost.

Satellite Broadband: Satellite broadband is available everywhere without the need for a landline. However, opting for satellite broadband may be more expensive than getting broadband with a landline. The coverage and speed coils are also a major issue. To find out if you could get broadband at a cheaper price than you are currently paying and what your options are use our postcode checker.

Mobile Broadband 4G/5G: This is also a good option for broadband no landline. You should consider this option if a mobile phone has a good reception in your area. Mobile broadband connects via USB dongles, wireless data-only sim, or a Wi-Fi hotspot. Mobile broadband offers the most convenient way to get connected to the internet without a landline. However, for long-term usage, a mobile broadband may be the best choice to opt for.

Fibre-to-the-premises broadband: FTTP is a full-fibre broadband service that offers the fastest broadband speed without a landline. It bypasses the old copper phone lines by using fibre-optic cabling all the way to your home so you don’t need a landline to use it. However, despite its fast speed, it is more expensive and as of December 2022, it was only available to 47% of the UK homes.

Why do I need a Line Rental?

Most providers deliver broadband to homes in the UK using phone lines. Therefore, whether you use that line to get online and stream movies on Netflix or just make calls to keep in touch with friends and family, you accrue the same phone line charges. The majority of providers in the UK use Openreach as a host to get their broadband services to you. This will only function properly over copper phone lines. This means you will need a phone line to get your broadband up and running. However, if you are open to opting for providers that are not hosting with Openreach,.

The main thing is that you need an active phone line. You do not necessarily have to pay for calls or do anything special with it.

Do I have to pay for a landline?

Paying for line rental is totally different from paying for landline services. Also, you won’t accrue extra charges for line rental, as it is included in the standard broadband service cost. However, you can accrue an extra charge if you decide to take out a home phone plan. You can’t completely avoid a landline. Most broadband providers use the phone line to get you connected; therefore, even if you aren’t using the phone line, you are typically paying for line rental. To avoid paying for line rental, you can opt for mobile or satellite broadband, but remember that they are not widely available and quite expensive.

Is it cheaper to get a broadband-only deal?

It is not necessarily cheaper to get a broadband-only deal, as they are not popular among users. It is sometimes cheaper to have a landline installed and to pay the line rental fees. However, you can save money if you choose not to install a landline from my broadband provider but rather go for the broadband-only deal.

Some providers offer a bundle deal of both broadband and home phone making it appear more appealing than just broadband-only deals, if the plan you are offered does not include a landline, you will most likely be able to save a few pounds per month.

Nevertheless, if you still require a landline to make and receive calls, you should consider signing up for a deal that includes this option, as it may be challenging for you to adapt to life without it. A lot of homes still find the landline to be essential.

Factors to Consider when Choosing a no landline Broadband Deal

Broadband deals no landline

Deciding on the best broadband-only deals to choose from a variety of plans and providers available can be quite daunting. Whether you are looking for reliable and fast internet for lag-free gaming, or you want to enjoy seamless streaming of your favourite shows, or maybe you just need the internet for work,. Here are some factors to consider before making the decision on the provider that is best for you.

Speed: consider your internet usage needs, as this will determine your speed requirements. If you primarily use the internet and email, you will not require a fast speed. However, if you want to play online games or do video streaming, you will need internet speeds of more than 50Mbps

Data Consumption: Some providers impose data caps and fair usage policies on their plans, take note of the data limit imposed by your provider for your preferred plan. If you are a heavy internet user, you can opt for an unlimited data plan. That way, you have enough data for your needs without incurring additional charges for exceeding your limit.

Contract terms and length: consider the contract terms and length, most broadband deals usually last between 12 and 24 months. Decide on how flexible you want to be if you do not want to be tied down to a contract for as long as your internet needs may change over time. Short-term contracts provide more flexibility, however, they are also more expensive than long-term contracts.

Cost: consider the set up fees, monthly charges, and any additional costs, such as installation or equipment fees. Sometimes, no-landline deals have higher upfront costs but lower monthly fees.

Coverage and availability: begin by determining which providers offer broadband services in your area. Even if they don’t provide landlines, coverage can vary, so make sure the provider can deliver reliable service in your location.

Customer support and provider reputation: before deciding on the provider or deal to choose, research customer reviews to determine the customer service reputation. This will help you gauge the quality of support and dependability of service. Also, look into how quickly issues are sorted out when a complaint is made.

Flexibility and perks: find out whether the broadband provider offers any additional benefits, such as free Wi-Fi hotspot access, security software, or bundled services like TV streaming platforms. Also, determine if the provider allows upgrades, particularly as your requirements might change over time. Some broadband-only plans allow you to migrate to faster speeds.

Future expansion: consider your future needs when comparing deals for different broadband-only providers, If you anticipate increased usage or the need for faster speeds in the future, make sure your provider offers scalability or easy plan upgrades

Reviews and recommendations: it is important to get recommendations from friends, family, and online communities. Actual user experiences can provide useful insights into the reliability and performance of various broadband-only providers.

Data privacy and security: ensure that your provider has strong security measures in place to protect your personal and sensitive information from cyber threats.

Which Providers Offer Broadband without a Landline?

Broadband only deal no landline

BT

BT offers broadband-only deals across its fibre-optic packages. This means you get to access broadband without paying for a phone line. This also means you can’t use your phone to make or receive any form of call.

Virgin Media: Virgin Media operates using its own independent network instead of Openreach like other providers. Its independent network gave it an edge, making it the first major provider to offer broadband with no landline cost. Its fastest speed delivers an average of 1,130Mbps (1Gbps), which is the fastest speed in the UK. But you may want to consider its cost, because, despite its unique service and ultrafast broadband speed, Virgin Media is considered a high-end provider due to the cost of its packages. Virgin Media is also the first provider to offer broadband, phone, and TV in a single package.

Plusnet: Plusnet offers a full-fibre broadband speed with a download speed of about 500 Mbps. It offers a broadband-only package, so your home phone will be disconnected and you no longer have to worry about line rental.

Other Providers: Some other full-fibre providers include Hyperoptic, Community Fibre, and Gigaclear, which offers broadband with no landline and the fastest speed. However, despite their fast speed, they are not widely available in the UK, so be sure to use our broadband checker before opting for a provider.

Is it possible to bundle my broadband-only deal?

It is. This is why it’s important to compare prices with another provider before signing up with one. If you do not want to use your landline, you can just unplug it. It also means you have more providers and deals to choose from.

You should also compare bundle deals. For illustration, if you want to add TV services, it might be cheaper to buy broadband, phone, and TV in a package than to buy broadband-only and pay TV as a separate package.

Is broadband without a phone line the same as broadband-only?

The majority of the providers have broadband-only deals available. But in some cases, you may be required to pay for their line rental even if you didn’t take out their phone services. Providers like O2, Vodafone, and EE offer broadband-only packages. However, it can be more expensive than fixed home broadband. If you surpass your monthly data limit, you could end up accruing costs

What are the disadvantages of broadband with a landline?

There are limited numbers of providers.
It’s not cheaper than broadband with line rental.
There are a limited number of providers to compare with, and a limited number of broadband deals to compare with.
With broadband-only, you do not have a dependable phone line to rely on in cases of power outage.

Is the United Kingdom phasing out landlines

Openreach intends to completely phase out analogue landlines by the end of 2025. The Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) will be discontinued, and in its place will be the new Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service, which allows you to make calls via the internet.

You can still own a landline, but the VoIP service will allow you to make calls from smartphone apps, personal computers, and tablets. There will be plug-ins available to help those who are still using analogue phones function as VoIP devices.

Can I get my present home phone number back after I opt for a broadband-only deal?

No, you must pass a credit check before signing a phone contract. Therefore, you may purchase a smartphone outright if you need a better credit history and sign up for a SIM-Only deal. Providers like SMARTY, Lycamobile, VOXI, and giffgaff do not require credit checks for SIM-Only contracts.

How to switch to a better Broadband package

No, you may not be able to get your home phone number back if you decide to go for a broadband-only deal.

“Truly unlimited” broadband is perfect for heavy downloaders, student households or families sharing their connection because it does not apply either a fair usage policy or traffic management. This lets you download as much as you want, whenever you want, with your broadband speed acting as the only restricting factor. Some packages offer “unlimited broadband” without a fair usage policy but with traffic management to make sure that very heavy downloaders do not affect your connection at peak times.
